About Pom Pom Joe
Born in Brooklyn and now based in Düsseldorf, my journey with pom poms began over 20 years ago while teaching children English in Düsseldorf, Germany. I discovered that combining arts and crafts with language lessons made learning more engaging and fun. Among all the creative projects, pom poms quickly became a favorite. Seeing the joy these fluffy creations brought to both children and adults as I walked the school halls adorned with pom pom necklaces and crowns was incredibly inspiring.
This sparked a lifelong passion for creating larger-than-life pom poms and sharing their magic on a grander scale. The simple act of making pom poms is incredibly therapeutic, bringing people into a meditative state. It allows us to step away from the overwhelming nature of the modern world and reconnect with a sense of nostalgia and playfulness.
Fast forward to four years ago, when I embarked on a new pom pom project with my son. Together, we created our first giant pom pom as a papa-son project. Seeing his eyes light up at the sight of our creation reignited my imagination and reminded me of the incredible joy that pom poms bring—especially the big ones. That experience set my heart on fire, and it pushed me to make them bigger and bigger.
My intention for this world record attempt is to create something that resonates with people of all ages, transporting them back to a simpler time filled with wonder and curiosity. I want to inspire others to embrace creativity and play, reminding us all of the power of human connection through art.
